Unfortunately, with so many people competing for the same pool of jobs in this complicated job market, most companies are finding that it’s hard to make a distinction among candidates. Everyone looks the same on paper, and most interviews go the same way. Yet people wonder why they aren’t getting in the door, or winning that offer after a prolonged interview process. They are relying on old rules to try and find a new job in a very difficult economy, banging their head against the same wall and expecting different results.
For women, this can be especially earth shattering as they internalize and believe that they are doing something “wrong.”
At Make It Happen For WomenSM, we believe that a job search really should be a “full court press” marketing initiative. When a large company brings a product to market, they do research on the market, strategize which marketing channels to use and determine how best to package the product. We believe that a job search for professional women should be just that!
A Unique Methodology
We have developed a unique program with an individualized Personal Marketing ToolboxTM and with a proven methodology – both strategic and tactical - that works in this difficult job market. We do the research on industries, types and sizes of companies that are in a woman’s geography and that are the best targets for her campaign based on her experience, education, and where she is in her career on the corporate ladder.
There are up to 11 marketing channels in today’s market for people to market themselves in. Unfortunately, most people use just three: Job Boards, Networking, and Recruiters. No wonder their job search is not working! We do the research and come up with a written Job Search Strategies Project Plan that identifies which channels will work best for each woman and her career goals. For each channel, we come up with a specific game plan
We also come up with a plan for any liabilities – Short stays, unemployment gaps, no degree, and titles that don’t show progression on resume. These are aspects of a woman’s career that a potential employer takes very seriously. We want to have a game plan for each BEFORE it comes up in the interview. Some liabilities can be downplayed in the resume so they never come up in an interview!
Because the strategy is so important in a woman’s job search campaign, we develop different resumes, as well as, marketing letters and cover letters that are needed for each marketing channel in the campaign. One size does not fit all!
We also have a Breakthrough Coach for every client, to help them deal with the personal and professional challenges on the roller coaster ride of a job search in today’s challenging marketplace. One on One Weekly Coaching and Strategy sessions are set up with each client that help us analyze what’s working and what needs to be tweaked. We also respond quickly to rapidly changing market conditions and make any appropriate changes. Since every woman is different – every game plan is different. We are with our clients “in the trenches” as they move through their campaign.
